Naunton Nearly 19 - January 10th, 2016


The Naunton Nearly 19 is a great way to say goodbye to the traditional holiday "insulation" and the winter blues.  The marked route starts in the scenic village of Naunton, Gloucestershire and takes in 1450ft of ascent, some fun descents, and a few chocolate-box Cotswold villages.

Route Details

The route starts with a short climb out of Naunton before heading east and gently down hill towards Stow-on-the-Wold.  The single-loop, clockwise course will take you along the River Eye to Upper Slaughter, then back along the Windrush and Warden's Ways into the Guitings.  The paths are primarily on firm ground and good for running.  With the 1450 feet of total ascent divided among three small hills and two longer climbs, the Naunton 19 offers a gentle start to the year.

 We strongly recommend that you print out and carry a map with you, in case you get lost and need to ask for directions.  

Check Points 

Check points will be placed at convenient intervals where the route is on or near a road.  Water will be available at each check.  Be reminded, though, that it may take more than an hour to get from one water stop to the next, so all participants must carry a drink throughout (see Mandatory Kit).  There will be sweets available at the checkpoints, but you are advised to carry some emergency energy food.

Check points will be located at approximately 5mi, 9.5mi, and 12mi.

What You Get

In addition to a marked course through fantastic countryside and a few nibbles at the check points, entrants will receive an item of Cotswold Running race gear at race registration.  Finishers will receive a memento of their achievement.   


Getting There

To reach Naunton from the M5 south of Cheltenham, take Junction 11A onto the A417 and then join onto the A436.  Turn  left onto the B4068 and continue to Naunton.  From the M5 north of Cheltenham, take junction 10 for the A4019 and follow the one-way system around Cheltenham heading for the A46 then A40 east-bound.  Join the A436 and then turn left onto the B4068. 

From the north or east, the A429  from the M40 junction 15, the Fosse Way, or the A422 from Banbury will get you to Stow-on-the-Wold.  From here, follow the B4068.  From the southeast, the A40 from Oxford/Whitney will get you to the A429, where you turn right for Bourton-on-the-Water where you turn left and then meet up with the B4068.
